International Violence Against Women Act of 2008 - H.R.5927

The International Violence Against Women Act of 2008 (I-VAWA) was introduced by Rep. Howard Berman (CA-28) on April 30, 2008, and is currently in the Foreign Affairs Committee. This bill would establish the Office of Women’s Global Initiatives in the Department of State; establishes an advisory commission; directs the President to develop comprehensive strategy to prevent violence against women and girls; and provides that Foreign Service training include instruction on prevention of violence against women and girls.
