Officer Lisa Beaulieu (Beaumont, TX PD)

Killed in the Line of Duty: April 27, 2007

During the early morning hour of April 27th, Officer Lisa Beaulieu was directing traffic at the

scene of a motorcycle accident when she was struck by a drunk driver. She was hit at such a speed that she was thrown over the overpass onto the service road below. Suffering severe head trauma, Officer Beaulieu was rushed to the nearest hospital where she passed away. Officer Beaulieu was a 6 year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department and was well respected throughout the department. She loved being a police officer. Officer Lisa Beaulieu is survived by her parents, her siblings, her extended family, and her friends.

Officer Angel Cruz, NYPD

As Officer Angel Cruz was trying to arrest Hugo Hernandez for a minor subway offense, Hernandez slashed Cruz with a knife across his face and then stabbed him in the skull. Hernandez fled and Cruz, though injured, gave chase eventually capturing Hernandez and holding onto him until help arrived. Officer Cruz spent several nights in the hospital but was expected to recover.

Chief Ernie Mendoza (Needville ISD Police)


Killed in the Line of Duty: February 2007


As Needville, TX ISD Police Chief Ernie Mendoza was coming home from supervising a high school basketball game, his car was struck head-on by a drunk driver. The crash instantly killed the dedicated police chief. A 25 year veteran of law enforcement, Chief Mendoza worked in the school district to make a difference. He wanted to be a positive role model and keep the kids safe. He always took the time to talk with the students. Chief Mendoza leaves behind a wife and four children.

NYPD’s Finest



NYPD Rookie Officers Patrick Lynch, Christine Schmidt and Joseph Cho became heroes when they stopped a criminal intending to commit robberies to gain money.  Attacking Rookie Officer Cho with a bat to get his gun, this criminal was willing to hurt anyone who got in his way.  Rookie Officers Lynch and Schmidt came to Cho’s aid and captured the suspect, who has been charged with a number of felonies.  All three officers received commendations from the police commissioner and from the city.  Officer Cho made a full recovery.

Officer Rodney Johnson (Houston PD)

Killed in the Line of Duty: September 21, 2006

On Sept. 21, 2006, at 5:00pm, Houston Police Officer Rodney Johnson was killed by a suspect, arrested and seated in the back of his patrol car. Officer Johnson was shot four times at point blank range, but managed to push his emergency help button, alerting dispatch of the attack. The suspect is currently in the custody of the Houston Police Department and has been charged with 1st degree murder.

Officer Rodney Johnson was a 12 year veteran and beloved member of the Houston Police Department. He had previously served as a military police officer in the US Army and a corrections officer and jail attendant for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Officer Johnson was known for his bravery, earning two lifesaving awards and the prestigious Medal of Valor, and his personable nature. He was a true hero. Officer Johnson is survived by his wife Joslyn, a fellow HPD officer, three daughters, and two sons.

Constable Dale Geddie (Smith County, Texas)

Killed in the Line of Duty: June 7, 2006


Smith County 4th Precinct Constable Dale Geddie was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance call. The perpetrator, who was harmed with 150 armor penetrating bullets, fired at Constable Geddie and Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Leon as they approached the suspect's house. Constable Geddie was shot in the head, while Deputy Leon was shot in twice in leg and once in the arm. Deputy Leon is expected to make a full recovery.
Constable Geddie was a 17 year veteran of the Smith County Sheriff's Department. He had served as the Constable of Smith County's 4th Precinct since January of 2005. He was described by those who knew him as a dedicated and honest lawman, and a friend to all. Constable Geddie is survived by his wife and two sons.

State Trooper Andrew Sperr (New York)

Killed in the Line of Duty: March 1, 2006


Congressman Poe gave a floor speech in honor of New York State Trooper Andrew Sperr, who was killed in the line of duty on March 1, 2006. Trooper Sperr had been a member of the NY State Troopers for 10 years, when, on March 1, 2006, he was investigating a suspicious pickup truck, stopped on the side of the road. As Trooper Sperr approached the vehicle, the individuals in the truck opened fire, and struck Trooper Sperr multiple times. At least one bullet penetrated his side, above his body armor. Trooper Sperr was 33 years old. Trooper Sperr is survived by his parents.
