WASHINGTON, DC Tonight Congressman Ted Poe issued the following statement on the Budget Control Act:

Tonight the House voted on the Budget Control Act of 2011. After careful thought and consideration, I have decided that I cannot support final passage of this legislation. This is a watered-down version of the original bill that passed the House on Friday. It does not include sufficient future spending reductions and most importantly, does not mandate passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution before allowing the President to raise the debt ceiling a second time. Passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment is the key ingredient to restoring financial stability in this country.  It is the only path forward that would provide meaningful, effective and permanent change in Washingtons fiscal behavior. I cant support a plan that does not permanently change Washingtons addiction to spending Americans money. And thats just the way it is.
