Congressman Ted Poe introduced the following legislation in the 112th Congress that will significantly reduce federal government spending:

H.R. 153 - Ensuring Affordable Energy Act

Summary: Congressman Poeintroduced H.R. 153 which will prohibit federal funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to be used to implement or enforce a cap-and-trade program for greenhouse gases. Although the cap-and-tax legislation has not become law, the administration has indicated that it will implement this policy through new EPA regulations without Congress approval. The American public has overwhelmingly disapproved of this policy. This bill will put an end to any back-door attempt to go around Congress and circumvent the will of the people.

Projected Cost Savings: $8.73 billion over the first nine years of implementation*

*Cost estimate based on a CBO analysis of the cap and trade program proposed in H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Cost estimate may vary based on changes in the scope and structure of new EPA regulations.

H.R. 154 - Defund the Individual Mandate Act

Summary:Congressman PoeintroducedH.R. 154 which will prohibit funding for the implementation or enforcement of any federal mandate to purchase health care. This mandate unconstitutional and beyond the power given to the federal government in the Constitution and will have a significant negativeimpact on the federalbudget. In order to enforce the individual mandate found in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, individuals will be required to pay a tax if they do not purchase government approved health insurance. In order to enforce this new tax, the IRS will need to hire an additional 16,000 or so new IRS agents. The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that just the enforcement of this mandate will cost between 5 to 10 billion dollars to implement.

Projected Cost Savings: $5-10 billion
